Does STEAM Link stream everything from your machine or just what's streamed through your STEAM account? I ask because I've an old 42" TV in my computer room that isn't a smart TV. I used to use my PS3 to stream Netflix on it but the PS3 doesn't work anymore and I can't be bothered checking what's the problem(I think it's a cable issue but I really can't be ♥♥♥♥♥♥).

In other words... Can I use windows through the Steam Link? I don't need this myself, but a family member has the pc too far from the tv to properly hook them together and this is a requirement...

I am using Ubuntu (right now writing through Link) but I am sure that Windows desktop works as well...

Then this is a dream machine!!! Thank you for the information... They should advertise this function more: streams entire pc to whatever screen in your house with hdmi!

IMHO the easiest setup for movie streaming is to just add kodi as a non-steam game and launch it through big picture. Then you dont have to deal with desktop mode and you get straight into it. I messed around with getting kodi working natively, and while it does work I just dont think the horsepower or ram is there for it ever be truly feasible as a day to day solution

Also an FYI the flirc module works with link, I bought one just for this purpose. So you program it on your pc, plug it into your link, make sure your remote is mapped on it correctly, and now you can use your universal remote with both steam and to watch movies

Yes it will be used for plex, kodi. But also for media on the pc's themselves, basic browsing (everything beats smart tv's, pc is better then mobile browsing) will also be done. Perhaps even reviewing typed text with others on a big screen. There are many more things to do then stream games and media alone. But yes, primarily that haha
