After a couple more placement attempts, I finally settled on having it against the wall, directly behind where I sit. What a world of difference! Being in the optimal position, the woofer is beautifully balanced with my stereo; it is deep and punchy without being overpowering.
I would say a 10" is the perfect size because it is very powerful, and can hit 98% of those super low range frequencies, yet it also remains extremely clean and tight. There is not a lick of sloppiness or tonal bleeding from this bad boy. An excellent addition to any stereo or home theatre setup! I would encourage you to try different placements in the room until you land on the perfect sound that you are looking for.
Update a few months maybe even a year later…That noise I was talking about has gone away completely. I don’t know if it was my placement or the fact that it needed to be broken in a bit but it’s perfect now. I also bought the 12” version of this recently. My thought was to set the crossover higher on the 10 and real low on the 12. Still dialing it in but I genuinely wish I went with a second 10. The highs are soo much cleaner and clearer. I have the 10” crossover set to 100hz with no complaints. I have to run the 12” down at 60hz. The 80-100hz range on the 12” does not sound good. 70hz and lower will hit and hit hard which is great but if your main speakers don’t cover that 70-100hz range well it’s not worth it going with the 12”. 2 tens is absolutely the way to go. Klipsch makes high quality speakers and I would instantly recommend them to anyone looking to get into home theater. On a side note my room is very small maybe 200-300 square feet if your room is large you may want to consider the 12’s.
I mostly listen to classic rock, some jazz and a little heavy metal when the mood strikes me. I have this sub hooked up to a newer Sony receiver with Polk audio floor standing, center and surround speakers and the setup was easy with the auto setup feature that Sony has. I did make a few tweaks afterwards to suite my taste.
I almost bought 2 of these but thought I would try one first. I still might get a second one for ground shaking bass for watching movies. I live on 2 acres and although I have only had this sub for 2 days at the time of this review.
I have put it through it's paces and can only assume it will get better once broken in. Which shouldn't take me to long.
Hopefully this helps you make a decision but if you ask me I say buy it, you won't be disappointed.
As for the sound, let me tell you: It's fantastic. For the price point it exceeded my expectations. I really love the clear rumbling bass is produces in movies and game. On more than one occasion, background sounds of thunder in a game or movie caused me to instinctively look out the window to check for rain. This sub easily makes the low humming of a space ship in a sci-fi film fill the room, giving the illusion of being right there on the ship.
Upon first use, I left the amplifier knob at about 50-60%. This was a mistake as I did not mean to announce to the entire apartment complex that I had just bought this thing. The people at the other end of the building heard the damn thing. I keep it set to about 20-30% power at any given time and it really kick on those low notes. I can't wait for the day I get out of this apartment and can crank this baby up a little more without pissing off everyone around me.
Everything about this sub shows attention to detail and oozes confidence. From the black and copper aesthetic to the amplifier knob that goes up to 11, this thing fits my style perfectly. If I had to make a complaint on it, the only thing I can mention is that I wish the filter and amplifier knobs had a lot more resistance on them. When you are fiddling with cables behind your system, you can easily bump the knobs on the back and adjust them accidentally. Other than that, there is nothing I would change on this thing.
