| Details: | Ooma Telo Air VoIP Phone Adapter for $90 (expired) Ooma is a popular device that provides Voice-over-IP (VoIP) for your home or business. It plugs into your broadband Internet connection (cable modem, DSL, fiber line, etc) or uses Wifi, and hooks up to your home phone. Once you buy the Ooma, all calls within the US are toll-free. You will pay monthly taxes and a 911 service fee, which would typically total to under $4 per month (varies by location). Ooma has very positive reviews, with most people praising the quality and pricing especially after dropping their telephone service from their phone/cable bill. This version costs $90 today, and includes a Bluetooth adapter for so your mobile phone can make calls through the Ooma. Ooma usually charges about $120 for the base unit alone (without the Bluetooth adapter). An alternative to the Ooma is a Obihai OBi200 for $47.55. It provides the same Voice-over-IP service to your home phone, but makes and receives calls through a free Google Voice account. Unlike the Ooma, a Obihai box will not give any 911 emergency call service unless you add a phone provider to the unit which would cost $4 to $8 per month. We have an Obihai box, and like how well it integrates with our existing Google Voice number. The Obihai is nice, and takes only an hour to get running with a Google Voice account. If you prefer a device that is more hassle free, the Ooma may be a better choice for you. |
