| Details: | Amazon Echo Purchase Invitations: Today, Amazon announced a new device called Amazon Echo. It sits in your home and responds for your commands. It can play music, give the weather, announce the time, and look up simple things on the Internet. If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, you can request an invitation to purchase the device at $99. All other people can request an invitation to buy it at $199. Requesting an invitation is free, and you are not obligated to buy it when the invitation arrives. Our take. It seems like a home device that would work like Google Voice Search or Apple Siri, but instead of being a personal device, it can work for all members in a household. It could be useful for someone elderly or disabled, who wants to know the time or weather. Other than that, it does seem a little creepy having a device that listens for people's voices from across the room. Will it tell you to stop eating beans if you sound gassy? Will prankster house guests order products on your Amazon account, or set an alarm for 4am? The technology seems cool, and $99 or $199 is a decent deal IF you are specifically looking for a product like this. Otherwise, there will be plenty of other things to buy with your December bonus checks. |
