Details: | 55" 1080p TV for $300, 50" 4K TV for $300
In our opinion, the biggest reason to get a 4K TV is for the high dynamic range, or HDR. An HDR TV will show brighter colors and deeper blacks, producing an image that looks more like looking out a window. The above Toshiba 4K TV does not have true HDR, but a fake HDR according to AVS Forum. A TCL 55" 4K TV with Roku does have HDR (HDR 10-bit), according to its product specs, and costs $100 more. Its built-in Roku can stream 4K HDR videos from YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and others. Note that cable TV cannot broadcast better than 720p and 1080i (4 times less resolution of 4K), which is one reason why the cable TV industry successfully fought to charge streaming video providers a "toll" for competing with their inferior service, and will likely force a price increase once the new rules are established. |
