(repost)

The cost of each are about 23¢ per GB, the cheapest price for SD cards from a reputable manufacturer.

Be sure your camera, laptop computer, or portable device supports SD cards (not MicroSD or MiniSD) and are compatible with either SDHC or SDXC cards. Most cameras, laptops, and SD card readers manufactured after 2007 will support SDHC (for 32GB cards). The SDXC specification was released in 2009, but some devices were slow to adopt it. Be sure your camera, laptop, and SD card reader supports "SDXC" (with the "X") before buying a 64GB or 128GB SD card.

There are some Wifi-enabled SD cards available, but we do not recommend them. While they are convenient to upload without removing the SD card from your camera, they consume much more battery power than a regular SD card.

A 128GB SD card can roughly store about 22,000 photos taken at 16-megapixel quality, or record roughly about 10 hours of 1080p HD video. This means your camera's battery will likely need to be recharged many times before your memory card comes close to reaching its capacity.

For storing data, a 128GB SD card can hold about the same data as 27 DVD-R discs. Keep in mind though, long-term storage (like keeping backups of all your photos and tax returns) should be stored on a hard drive or a cloud service provider, since flash drives and CD/DVD discs can deteriorate over time.

For a SD card reader, we recommend a IOGear USB SD Card Reader for $6 from Newegg. We use it with a Sony 128GB SD card.

If you have a lot of SD cards, a SD card holder wallet for $2 might come in handy.
