It transfers data at about 32 MBytes/sec, or around 2GB per minute, and is good for personal backups and off-system data storage.

Toshiba Canvio Plus 1TB USB Portable Drive for $95 today. Pretty good reviews. Most stores sell portable 1TB USB Portable drives for around $120, with an occasional deal at $100, so $95 is a hot deal.

This is a portable drive, powers itself only with its included USB data cable. The unit is small enough to fit in a pocket or a front pouch of a laptop bag. The trade-off of the very small size is performance, as these drives only read/write at around 15 MBytes/sec, which is about 900 MBytes per minute, or about 54 GB per hour. If you expect to fill the entire 1TB drive in one sitting, expect it to take 18 hours. One plus side is these are great way to transfer a lot of data between work and home, store in a safety deposit box, and copy files to friends by postal mail where the Internet speeds are too impractical to transfer so much data.

This is a great deal for someone with a HDTV, a collection of DVDs, and is not ready for the Blu-Ray investment. Sony DVP-NS710H/B DVD Player for $30 with free shipping. It uses interpolation (guesswork) to fill in pixels, up-converting standard DVD (480p) up to HDTV resolution (1080p). It does not produce the quality of high-definition and Blu-Ray, but will improve the video quality of standard DVDs a little bit, and may extend the lifespan of your DVD collection until Blu-Ray players and Blu-Ray discs come down in price more.

Most other stores sell this up-convert DVD player for around $50. This deal likely expires sometime tonight.

It's slightly larger than the Western Digital My Passport portable drives, but smaller than most other manufacturers' portable drives. It provides a capacity of a around 950GB. With small, leightweight design comes a performance hit. It can transfer up to around 1.3 GBytes of data per minute, or about 80 GB per hour. If you need to fill the whole drive with data, such as off-site storage or for sending a friend your complete media library via US Mail, it can take around 12 hours to fill the entire drive.
- TrendNet TEW-652BRP Wireless-N Router for $20. Don't expect much quality and performance from a $20 router, but a good solution for someone who does not have a 5+ megabit connection and has no desire to spend a lot on computer equipment. Other stores sell it for around $35.
