- D-Link DGL-4500 Wireless Gigabit Router for $120 (repost)
D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme-N Wireless Gaming Router with 4 Gigabit LAN Ports, 1 Gigabit WAN port, Wireless b/g/n on either 2.4GHz frequency or Wireless a/n on 5GHz, up to 300 megabit wireless-N, and very good range.
Most stores sell this router for about $160.
Price is $120 with coupon SEM626B
It is labeled as a "gaming" router, which basically means it has built-in QoS (quality of service) for gaming apps, to improve their performance by using its processor to assign higher priority to those packets than regular browsing, email, and download packets.
In reality though, its processor improves all Internet performance, regardless whether you play games.
If you're looking for one of the best consumer routers on the market today, this may be it.
The $120 price may be too expensive for many people though.
This router is really meant for someone with a very high speed home Internet connection, 5 megabit minimum, or at least 8 megabit downloads and at least 1 megabit uploads.
We used this router for over two years on a 20 megabit Internet connection, and connect to it wirelessly with both Wireless-G at 54-megabit and Wireless-N at full 300-megabits.
Also works with wired computers up to gigabit speeds.
If you do need a powerful Internet wired router but do not need wireless (like if you already have a wireless router or wireless access point), a D-Link DGL-4100 Router for $90.
It lacks any wireless and no LED display, but otherwise provides similar routing.
A router like this will not improve the speed of your PC, however.
It is normal for Windows computers to collect spyware and adware over time which slows down PCs, and it is best to occasionally inoculate your PC.
The place you bought your PC has anti-spyware software available, or download a free program like Spybot Search & Destroy or AVG Anti-Virus Free.
Try this first before trying to improve your Internet performance by buying a better router.
